Waterproof robust bag

In order for any kit to eff ective it has to be with you and easily accessible no matter the weather. These kits come in a roll top, hard wearing waterproof bag that can be worn on a belt or stashed in your daysack.

CAT (Combat application tourniquet)

In the event of a life threatening bleed you have just 2 minutes to save a life. You will need to apply up to 40 foot pounds of pressure and quickly. You will then need to maintain that pressure whilst you seek help. Military experience has shown that the most effective way to do this is to use a combat application tourniquet – be aware of cheap imitations.

Emergency control bandage

An elasticated pressure bandage that allows a first aide to maintain effective pressure on a wound in order to control bleeding.

Foil Blanket

Statistically casualties in the outdoors are more likely to die of hypothermia than any other injury. Having successfully treated a casualty the ability to keep them warm whilst getting them to safety is lifesaving.

Trauma scissors

In order to use an AED, deliver effective CPR or treat a wound you may need to remove clothing quickly and efficiently. Most first aid kits come with safety scissors. These are unlikely to cut through robust outdoor clothing. This kit is supplied with robust trauma scissors

Protective gloves

Personal protection from infection

CPR face shield

A simple effective shield for delivering mouth to mouth resuscitation to people you may not know.

Compression gauze

This compact bandage unravels to deliver 3.75 metres of bandage that can be used for packing wounds and controlling major injuries. It may also be used for covering partial thickness burns.

Wipes, Closure strips and tape

Essential for cleaning & closing wounds

About The Sandstone Foundation

The Sandstone Foundation SCIO inspires young people to be a part of their own solution and to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

There is little government or private money spent in the UK in schools and colleges on attempting to fit pupils’ and students’ skills and abilities to their possible future careers.

There is even less, often none, spent on encouraging the development of the life skills which young people will require whatever career they choose, the key skills required being the maintenance of motivation, resilience in adversity and the maintenance of good mental health.

The Foundation seeks to fill these gaps by delivering inspirational talks and workshops to schools and colleges, which focus on: developing and maintaining a ‘becauseican’ mindset, encouraging pupils and students to learn how to ’become a part of their own solution’ by focusing on what they can (rather than what they cannot) do joining the dots between key STEM and other subjects in academic life and possible future careers how to overcome adversity and develop resilience, whatever career is selected how poor mental health can impact performance, and what to do about that.
