Vango into the Wild - Family Weekender

In a world filled with busy schedules and endless distractions, finding ways to connect as a family has never been more important. As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations, we headed to Nethergill Farm in the stunning Yorkshire Dales for ‘Vango Into the Wild - Family Weekender’, a two-night outdoor adventure that brought together families from across the UK to celebrate the simple joys of family camping.
Hosted in partnership with CampWild, the event was designed to showcase how accessible and rewarding outdoor family adventures can be. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the weekend gave families the chance to step away from everyday routines and spend time together outdoors. Families were also treated to a fantastic food offering from Off the Beaten Pot, whose Mr Men inspired menu became a highlight of the weekend.

For many families, camping can feel intimidating, especially if it’s their first time. We wanted to show that with the right equipment and support, it can be an enjoyable experience for everyone. The event created opportunities for genuine connection, allowing children to explore and play while parents shared stories, exchanged experiences and found inspiration from other families.
Families arrived at Nethergill Farm and were welcomed with a traditional cream tea before settling into camp. Surrounded by fields and drystone walls, the weekend offered the perfect opportunity to slow down and appreciate the outdoors.
Activities throughout the weekend encouraged families to make the most of the outdoors. From wildlife walks with local farmer Dave and family games to woodland adventures, there was something for everyone. One of the weekend's highlights was the Mr Men woodland trail, where children set off on an adventure through the woods before collecting certificates on completion. Children enjoyed the freedom to explore, play and make new friends, while parents had the chance to relax and connect with like-minded families who share a love of the outdoors. Other highlights included live folk music, local ice cream, sunset walks, time in the Porta Sauna and cooling off in the river.
Food was a highlight throughout the weekend, with chefs Thom from Off the Beaten Pot and Stuart Woodman serving up delicious meals for families to enjoy together. Using quality sourced ingredients, they created hearty campfire meals and sweet treats, that kept everyone well fed throughout the weekend. Evenings were spent around the campfire sharing stories and enjoying Thom's famous popcorn creation.

As families packed up and headed home on Monday morning, they left with more than just memories of a great few days outdoors. New friendships had formed between children, parents and even a few four-legged friends, while many families left inspired to plan their next camping trip. And if the reports of children sleeping through the night are anything to go by, that's a bonus too.
The event reinforced a simple but important message - camping is one of the most rewarding ways for families to connect. Whether it's toasting marshmallows around the campfire, exploring new places together or simply enjoying breakfast outdoors, it’s often the simplest moments that are the most memorable.
As we celebrate 60 years of helping people enjoy the outdoors, weekends like this remind us why camping continues to bring people together. So why not make this the year your family gives camping a go?
