Simple Ways to Enjoy the Outdoors This Earth Day
Spring has sprung, and today we celebrate Earth Day - an annual event that raises environmental awareness and encourages people to take action to protect our planet. People often celebrate by participating in beach or park cleanups, planting trees, or simply spending time outdoors.
While Earth Day is one day a year, every day is an opportunity to give back to the planet. Small actions over time create a bigger impact. Simple actions like walking more, using public transport instead of driving, or reducing waste all contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.
To inspire your next adventure, we’ve put together a list of ways you can enjoy the outdoors responsibly.
1. Camping – There’s nothing better than heading outdoors and finding a quiet spot to pitch your tent. Bring reusable utensils and a refillable water bottle to reduce waste and always take home everything you brought with you.
2. Geocaching – An outdoor treasure hunt with varying difficulty levels using GPS navigation. Some caches are large and easy to find, while others are tiny and more challenging. Respect nature by sticking to trails and leaving caches as you found them. Don’t forget to log your find and let other geocachers know you’ve been there!
3. Cycling – Dust off the winter cobwebs and hit the trails with your family, friends or solo. Cycling is a fun way to explore nature and improve your fitness. Remember to wear your helmet and try use designated paths to protect the environment.
4. Yoga – Outdoor yoga helps connect your mind and body to the sights and sounds of nature. Bring a reusable or eco-friendly yoga mat and leave no trace. It’s a great way to reduce stress and feel grounded.
5. Picnic - Pack your favourite snacks and head to a scenic spot. Incorporate seasonal, local produce to help reduce environmental impact. Make sure to take all your rubbish with you and leave the area as you found it.
6. Nature Journaling – Bring a notebook on your next walk and record the plants, animals, and landscapes you encounter. This reflective activity encourages mindfulness and helps you notice the little details we often overlook.
Our Commitment to Sustainability:
Since 2005, Vango has offered a spares and repairs service where our customers can send in damaged tents, sleeping bags or backpacks for repair. This not only reduces the amount of kit going into landfill, but any items beyond repair, are harvested for parts, recycled and reused in other repairs. We now work with Tent Spares to ensure repairs are carried out efficiently.
Vango also work alongside Camping Recycled, our sister company which sells ex-display equipment and refurbished stock at a discounted price, further reducing our product waste.
Every action, big or small, contributes to protecting the outdoors we love. This Earth Day, remember to treat our planet with respect, leave no trace, and leave the world a little greener than we found it.
