F10 Xenon UL2

I am a tubby 68 year old long distance hiker who took delivery of a Xenon UL in March 2018. I needed a little more space on longer trips, but without a weight penalty. It is great when your hopes & expectations are exceeded. I am extremely content with this tent. In April/May 2018 I camped in it for approximately 40 nights while walking solo along the South West Coast Path. With the groundsheet protector and a few extra pegs, it weighs just on 2kg. It is quick and easy to erect. For such a lightweight tent, it is very weatherproof. I slept soundly through gales, thunderstorms and downpours. The tent stood up brilliantly. It has some great features. It is a definite pleasure to live in on long hikes. A minor problem with any tent that pitches inner& flysheet together, is condensation on the inside of the flysheet in the morning. The Xenon is no exception. The inner tent was never wet or damp but it did spend 20 minutes most mornings removing about 1kg of water from the flysheet inner surface before packing the tent away. I soon learned. If I pitched the tent with the door facing into the wind, I could get just the right opening to keep me warm and dry while getting a great airflow beneath the flysheet and much less condensation in the morning. Again, another very minor point. The pockets all along the base of the tent wall are great for organising your gear....in the daytime. At night I moved everything to the groundsheet floor. Heavily laden pockets will touch the flysheet wall and get wet. (Vango - If the bathtub groundsheet material extended upwards by 10cm, the pockets would then be waterproof.) The groundsheet protector is worthwhile purchasing. It clips onto the groundsheet, making pitching easy, and makes the tent quite snug. (However, do remember to unclip the protector occasionally and inspect & clean the surfaces. After about ten days of ever worsening bad smells, I found a dead, decomposing frog between the two groundsheets). I managed to damage the zip of the flysheet. Vango were excellent and returned the repaired flysheet within five days of receipt. In summary, I am very happy with this tent. It is good value and is perfect for my long treks.
