We're Good to Go Camping

We are delighted to see this headline come through from the Outdoor Industry Association as they publish their helpful guide to regulations and recommendations for ‘COVID Safe’ reopening of campsites.

We have condensed the guide into a bitesize update below just for you:

Guidance that Campsites are following

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all taking a slightly different approaches in order to keep people safe.  You can see from the links below that campsites are adhering to strict government guidelines in order to give you confidence that your UK campsites will be opening safely.

For England: see the Working safely during coronavirus guide HERE

For Wales: see the Taking all reasonable measures to maintain physical distancing in the workplace HERE

For Scotland: see the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Phase 1: business and physical distancing guidance HERE

For Northern Ireland: see the Coronavirus: Workplace safety guidance and priority sector list HERE

New Campsite Measures to Keep You Safe

Every campsite will undertake, both operational and risk assessments, to plan, implement new measures and open safely.

Many campsites are introducing new measures, such as one-way routes around the parks to allow for social distancing and clear signage to remind people within the campsites, as well as within the local communities.

Other safety measures include, where possible, advance booking payments to allow for contactless check-ins and clear distancing guidelines and demarcation of the 2m separation distance when campers are using shared facility points (Waste disposal and water taps).  Campsites will also have additional signage of hand washing requirements after using communal areas.

To keep you up to date for your planned trips, websites will be updated regularly to give pre-visit information on what the park has in place to control COVID-19 risks. In addition, they will email all who hold current bookings, all members who may make future bookings.  They will also email you updates on any implemented changes and pre departure emails to outline the measures and expected behaviours.

New behaviours in place will include, not to invite visitors to meet on the park to control the number of guests on the campsite and group bookings will be carefully controlled.

In order to ensure you are visiting a campsite that has strict safety measure and are abiding by the government and OIA advise, there is now a new ‘We’re Good to Go’ Visit Britain Kite mark that Outdoor Recreation venues and destinations can apply for.

It is a nationally coordinated campaign by Visit Britain and the Department of Culture Media and Sport that is relevant to all 4 devolved nations and is intended to inspire confidence in campsites and holiday locations.

You can read about it HERE

This is a very new kite mark and will take some time for campsites and holiday destinations to apply for it and those campsites who gain this kite mark will have been formally approved and the award is monitored and sport checked to ensure compliance, thereby giving campers confidence to book with them as they are providing a safe place for them to holiday with their families.
