Autumn Camping Essentials

Autumn is here and winter is not too far away, but this doesn't mean you have to pack away your camping gear just yet. With many campsites staying open later in the year and some even all year round, this can be a great time of year to get away and relax. Campsites are generally quieter after the summer rush, and you might even get lucky with the weather! The changing seasons can bring incredible views, with the leaves starting to fall and even some snow on the hills. This is the perfect chance to get out with the family and take in all that nature has to offer. Check out some of our advice for camping in autumn and beyond.

Staying Warm

As the nights are getting cooler, it is necessary to make sure you have the right kit to help you camp better. Make sure you are using a 3-4 season sleeping bag for maximum comfort on colder nights. See our selection of sleeping bags here: 3-4 season sleeping bags

Additionally, our innovative Radiate Single sleeping bag has a built-in graphene heating panel, designed to keep you cosy on colder nights, perfect for autumnal camping. Alongside this, we have the Radiate Heat Mat, which also benefits from a graphene heating panel with 4 heat settings. This heat mat can be used in a sleeping bag you already own creating a cosy bag all night or use it while sitting outside on chilly nights.

Key to keeping warm other than your sleeping bag is keeping up off the cold ground. An airbed is a simple and easy to use option, however, the warmest option would be a campbed plus you can make is really comfortable by adding a self-inflating matress to ensure you get a great night sleep.

Lighting

In autumn the nights draw in earlier, meaning the nights will be longer than un summer. To make the most of your camping trip, make sure you pack plenty of lighting options which will help you see in the wilderness and can keep you outside for longer. Headtorches are essential for late night walks, while lanterns and lights will help you keep your tent bright.

Cosy Chairs

Sit back, relax and put your feet up. whether your able to sit and enjoy the fresh air or your in your tent or awning taking a break from the elements a comfortable padded chair is certainly high on the list to keep you warm as you extend your camping season.

The Vango Embrace Chair, featuring cosy padding for that added luxury on the campsite. Just as its name suggests, the Embrace chair gives you that constant comfort and hugging feel wherever you go.

Campfires and Cookers

With the weather cooler, it’s the perfect time to set up a campfire to enjoy the outdoors longer. Always make sure you are permitted to have a campfire on the campsite you are staying at. While enjoying the campfire, why not try cooking outside on our collection of cookers as dining al fresco can be enjoyed all year round, check some out here: cookers

Warm Drinks

Keeping your hands around a warm drink of tea, hot chocolate or even a cheeky muld wine will always warm you on an autumn evening. A flask is a great option for when your away walking for the day and know you might just need a little bit of warmth on the go.

Don't forget a handy camping kettle to make your cooler morning that little bit warmer.
