Galaxy 300

  • Review Video
The Vango Galaxy 300 tent was created based on feedback from youth group leaders. Constructed with a large front porch ideal for map reading, storage and keeping dry, whilst the bedroom is lower therefore keeping the user warmer through the night. The clip in riser porch ground sheet allows a clean dry storage area whilst reducing draughts. The Galaxy is ideal for adventurers looking for a bit of extra room but with a good space to weight ratio. This 3 man tent offers added stability with TBS®II used on the tunnel structure. Perfect for those wild camping in a group or on a weekend away at a campsite. More >>

An absolutely brilliant tent for 2 adults (cosy with 3)

Pitching is very straight forward with colour coded poles, so you can't go wrong. It took me about 20 minutes to pitch it on my own. From new pitch outer first, (but pack away all in one so future pitches are all in one). The carry bag/stuff sack is a good size, making packing away easy, even in the rain! The tent pegs are of reasonable quality, whilst a bit of care and consideration is required when placing them, I haven't bent any yet!

The bedroom area is 210 cm (6 ft 10 ins) long, 180 cm (5 ft 10 ins) wide, with a fully sealed polythene bathtub, with good sized handy mesh storage pockets on either side. There is a meshed vent at the rear, and a full zipped mesh door to keep the bugs out. The mesh is fine so no bugs got in. Though this is rated as a 3 berth, it is very comfortable for 2 adults on large single airbeds, it would be a bit snug with 3 adults. Very good ventilation so hardly any condensation build up.

The vestibule/porch area is 210 cm (6 ft 10 ins) long, tapering to 255 cm (8 ft 4 ins) wide at its widest point and 190 cm (6 ft 2 ins) at highest point then tapers down to 130 cm (4 ft 3 ins) at the bedroom. It was this vestibule that attracted me to this tent, at 6'2' I can more or less stand up to get changed, no more lying on my back or struggling on my knees! There are also a couple of meshed vents in the porch which help with ventilation. The area is spacious enough to comfortably accommodate 2 chairs and 2 tables (2 ft 6 ins long, 1 ft 3 ins wide) along with our backpacks/gear. There are a couple of rings from which to hang a lantern and/or a short clothesline, a very nice and handy touch. The tension straps really do help to keep the tent stable in windy conditions, though I haven't tried the tent in really strong winds. The groundsheet is detachable which makes cleaning a doddle, though the clips are a bit stiff when unfastening. With two side windows are clear and have covers for privacy and a small skylight window for plenty of light in the day, and watching the stars at night! A great chill area in bad weather.
I have used this tent quite a few times, in a heavy downpour and warm summer nights, and can't find any serious criticism to this tent, when pitching in the rain (all in one), no water got into the bedroom, though I don't make a habit of this! it was a big plus for me - you never know if mother nature is going to be kind or not. Vango you have done a really good job with this one, full marks. I would very highly recommend this tent. The ground sheet clips could do with being a bit easier to unclip, and an extra couple of inches wider all round wouldn't go a miss.

Well done

I used the tent from Saturday to Tuesday last week. It has been a bit hectic since then but I just wanted to say to you what a brilliant tent it is. Being able to have a table and chair and a side table for my wine glass was just the job. It was easy to pitch and strike single handed and could well have been designed especially for elderly Scout Leaders. I have other tents where it is a struggle to get the poles into their pin or ring but this was no problem. Well done to whoever thought of the concept.
